Dan Schmid is Counsel to Carter Arnett. Dan is a registered patent attorney and represents technology companies in a wide range of intellectual property matters, with a focus on patent litigation and inter-partes reviews. Dan has represented clients in a variety of technology fields, including 3D image capture and modeling, computer software, network architecture, wireless communication, semiconductor design and manufacturing, encryption, building management and security systems, and others.

Prior to joining Carter Arnett, Dan was an associate at a patent litigation boutique in Austin, TX, where he was involved in patent infringement cases spanning a range of technologies. Dan’s technical background is in mechanical engineering, and he worked as a Research Engineer for The University of Texas Center for Electromechanics before attending law school. His work there focused on the commercialization and development of an electromechnical process for extracting oil from algae for the production of biofuels.
